How Two Loving Parents’ Invention Enabled Their Daughter with Cerebral Palsy to Experience More

The inspiring story of Paul and Carolynne LaRue and their journey to create a safe and reliable heating solution for their daughter who lives with Cerebral Palsy.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” – Albert Einstein

Human nature pushes us to look for solutions to care for our loved ones, some may say that caring for others is what makes us human in the first place. The story behind the Cozee Battery Powered Heating Blanket is one of humbling inspiration that was brought to reality through one family’s aspiration to enable their daughter to experience more, together.

“The story of The Cozee began with our daughter, Brianna. We call her BooBoo—a nickname she gave herself.” Said Paul LaRue

“Boo was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP). She has been a fighter, an adventurer, and a lover of life from the moment she took her first breath. One of Boo’s favorite things is to go on outings. She calls it “going all around.” As is true with most people who are wheelchair users, BooBoo has poor circulation, which causes her to get cold very easily. As you can imagine, this has created limitations to the many adventures she’d like to have with her family and friends. Even in everyday life, my wife Carolynne and I are always trying to keep Boo warm, whether it’s to run a few errands or just taking a walk.” Paul Continued

Cerebral Palsy is a condition that affects over 760,000 individuals in the United States and over 17 million globally. While symptoms of CP may vary, the CDC describes the condition as “a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles.”

BooBoo’s symptoms included poor circulation throughout her body, putting her at risk in colder weather of becoming hypothermic. After trying every other heating blanket on the market, Paul and Carolynne wanted something they could rely on to provide the warmth their daughter needed, out of this need, Life Giving Warmth was born.

“A few years ago it hit me, “what about a battery powered heating blanket?” After several online searches I was completely surprised to find that there was nothing like it on the market. That’s when Carolynne and I started on our journey to invent the world’s first battery powered heating blanket. This product was birthed out of a love for our daughter Brianna.” Said Paul LaRue

Traditional heating blankets limit how much their users can move around and are rarely used outdoors because of their need to be connected to an electrical outlet. On the other hand, The Cozee Battery-Powered Heating Blanket is 100% portable with a battery pack that generates 3+ hours of continuous warmth. Additionally, its micro-fleece interior holds in heat and creates maximum comfort.

“After years of revisions and new innovations we have created the perfect range of indoor/outdoor blankets that completely wrap around your lifestyle. No matter who you are, or what you love to do, our goal is to enhance your life. “

Life Giving Warmth makes convenient warmth available to all with four SKUs on the market including The Cozee Battery-Powered Heating Blanket, The Kodiak Battery-Powered Heating Blanket, The ReCover EMS Battery-Powered Heating Blanket, as well as a version of their battery-powered heating blanket being developed for the military. These product offerings are made with a weather-resistant exterior that is designed to withstand the elements with micro-fleece lining that encases an internal insulation that maximizes heat retention. Life Giving Warmth Battery Powered Heating Blankets come with 3 heat settings, are completely portable and machine washable. They can be purchased online at lifegivingwarmth.com.
